Can't set up a WordPress site - "WordPress won't install"

When I try and create a new site using the defaults I get the error message below (I’ve replaced my personal info with xxxx). This happens after Local reaches the point of ‘Installing WordPress’.

Error: Command failed: /Users/xxxxxxx/Library/Application Support/Local/lightning-services/php-8.1.29+0/bin/darwin/bin/php /Applications/Local.app/Contents/Resources/extraResources/bin/wp-cli/wp-cli.phar --path=/Users/xxxxxxxx/Local Sites/kadence/app/public --require=/Applications/Local.app/Contents/Resources/extraResources/bin/wp-cli/local-wpcli-error-reporting.php --skip-plugins --skip-themes core config --skip-check --dbname=local --dbuser=root --dbpass=root

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

It happens every time I try the create a site.

I’ve deleted the existing version of Local and re-installed a new one from scratch. I get the same error message at the same point.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @robbeattie

Are you able to update your MacOS any further than Big Sur? I believe this is a conflict due to your OS version.

As another test you can try creating a Custom site and using an older version of PHP like 8.0 or lower.

I’m on a 2014 MacBook Pro, so this is as far as I go. :sunglasses:

I’ll try an older version of PHP though. That’s a good tip.

If that doesn’t work, is it possible to download an older version? I only want to use it to do some basic work using Kadence - real beginner’s stuff.

Thanks!

Rob

You can always download older versions direct from our releases page here:

Thanks Nick. Reverting to an older version of PHP did the trick.I’ll be upgrading to a new MacBook by year’s end but this should keep me going until then. Appreciate the help.
