Hi all,
I followed this guide to build a wordpress website offline step by step:](How To Create WordPress Website Offline? 2 Easy Methods )
However when I got to the local part, every time I try to update the hosts file I am met “looks like we ran into trouble updating the hosts file, it could be blocked by your anti virus” how do I verify it is my anti virus and also how do I stop this?
Any help would be appreciated as I cannot access the site.
Hello there @local1 - welcome to the Local Community!
Thank you for your question, this thread about anti-virus might be helpful to navigate this issue:
This is usually caused by the hosts file being set to read-only or locked by anti-virus.
1. Remove Read-only Attribute
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Right-click on the hosts file and go to “Properties”
Uncheck “Read-only”
Click “Apply”
Re-open Local

2. Anti-Virus/Internet Security
Avira

Kaspersky Total Security
Open Kaspsersky Total Security
Go to “More Tools”
[Step%201]
Go…
Let me know if that helps!

Hi Sam,
Thank you for getting back to me!
Sadly it didn’t work
I have Kaspersky, I followed the guide word for word, however at the end it says
Once you have the exclusion window open, exclude this path: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
I could not find that file on the path, so perhaps the hosts file is missing altogether? I really don’t know:(
