Could not update hosts files

Issue Summary

Received the ‘Uh oh! Could not update hosts file’ error when pulling in a site from wpengine to my local computer. It is definitely being blocked by my work, but I CAN edit the hosts file myself.

Is there a way to manually edit the hosts file once I pull a site from wp engine?

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
    All
  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
    NO

Replication

Be in a domain environment with firewall/antivirus.

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?
    5.10.1+5267

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
    Win 10 Pro

Usually when Local is unable to edit the hosts file, it has to do with something blocking that, usually some sort of antivirus. I’d recommend taking a look at this FAQ and letting us know if that gets you pointed in the right direction:
