This would be great!
Any update on this?
I feel its time for a bump to this issue but the issue of Connect at large. Connect is a closed aspect of Local and we donāt seem to have any sort of mechanism or ability to add to or modify it ourselves, meaning we canāt even write our own extensions to Connect for other hosts and feel this needs to be addressed in totality not just adding a new connection to appease just a handful of users.
SADLY - Iām not sure this will happen, everyone. Siteground is increasingly upping its game and is a serious threat to WP Engine/Flywheel now, due to its fantastic (almost enterprise-worthy) platform, tools and services. It also wins hands-down on price. Iāve been paying upwards of Ā£2000 a month to WP Engine for a long time and the value for money is seriously in question due to SGās cloud server platform. If you havenāt tried it yet - itās well worth the money!
So - back to my point; why would WPE/FW make their technology available to customers whoo host elsewhere. It makes absolutely no sense as they would be giving customers another really good reason to move to SG.
Itās a shame because Local is a fantastic product (not without its limitations) and a match made in heaven for SG in my opinion.
Happy to be proven wrong though!
If anyone is still looking for a workaround, I was able to take a site from LocalWP to SiteGround with the All-in-One plugin. Hopefully, this will be the only time migration is needed as I plan to build, test and deploy from SiteGround.
These 2 tutorial helped in the process:
Publish to bluehost.in too.
Its way cheaper hosting
We have a separate Feature Request for Bluehost here:
We have been considering alternative solutions to ābakeā into Local to help make moving sites to other hosts easier. Iāll also mention that Local has an open add on concept. So technically other hosts or devs are free to make a Connect add on if they so choose but to date none have reached out to our teams about this. Some related comments from us here on a similar request for Cloudways.
