Answer as much information as you can so the community can get a better idea of what it takes to create a Connect integration for a new hosting provider.
I’ll share a snippet I’ve commented on some other similar posts here just for transparency.
Technically we do have an open add-on concept, so any host could build a connect add-on if they desired. We don’t have any documentation specific to building a Connect add-on, so development could be tricky and require a lot of back and forth and troubleshooting. To date, no other hosts have ever contacted us about building something like this out. Many popular WordPress hosts out there instead have tried to come up with or improve their own alternatives for local development.
That said, we are exploring some future enhancements with Local Connect to potentially make things a bit easier for users to move sites back and further between Local and whatever host they choose. No further details or ETA at this time, but I just wanted to mention that it is on our minds

No hurry, it will be just great if you tell me what I should say and/or ask to WPMUDEV (where I host), in order to be able to make this happen. They’re open-minded, and this would start a new era for LocalWP, as other companies could use it instead of reinvent the (Fly)Wheel.
I’m and I’ll be always with LocalWP, I’ve seen it come along and now what we see is beautiful. We’d just need MariaDB on LocalWP for MacOS, and LocalWP trying to open sites on port 443 before trying port 80 (trying SSL before non-SSL). Nothing that hard.
Love your software, it’s pure art. Thank you for keeping it! Cheers!
As far as I could understand on your prior messae, an Add-On wouldn’t be the best way to make it happen, right?

The idea so would be to wait until this enhancements come along. I’d like to contact WPMU DEV in advance, so maybe anyone there can get in touch with you folks, to find out how to make this first “extra” hosting to use LocalWP… I can’t garantee they will contact, but I’ll do my best as a 10-year customer.
If you say it’s ok, I’ll tell them to sign-up and login to the LocalWP Community, and to contact you from your page here at the Community. Is that ok for you?
Thank you once again, LocalWP is working better than ever, fast and effective.
Yes they could get started with our Add On documentation if they wanted to explore building their own Local Connect add on to their platform and then reach out to us here with any additional questions regarding that!
I’ve thought that an Add-On wouldn’t be the best way to connect, but wait for the new upcomming features to be available. I’m affraid they spend loads of dev time to develop an Add-On and then it comes a new freature that makes it obsolete.
You’re correct there @fabiofava - I was simply offering the Add On option if you wanted to push that since we don’t have any ETA on when we might have a new feature to roll out at this time. It might be a tough sell to WPMU regardless since it’s likely only beneficial to a small group of their customers and would tie up a lot of developer time when basically most premium migration plugins could accomplish the same thing.
But many non-dev (I’m one of them) would love to just have a Connect for their Hosting, and have a button-operated Pull/Push system. More people would use LocalWP, they’d save on support for people on this matter.
I use All-in-One WP Migration and Backup, and it works well. But it would have it’s own market for LocalWP integrations. More intermediate-devs (like me) would be able to develop locally without the costs. Thus, to have a Connect to their hosting system, it’s a dream to be achieved.
I’ll keep looking forward from LocalWP (no matter how long it takes) for that Feature to allow Connects to other hosts. Can’t believe none has ever done any effort to create it before. Please let me know in case I can help in any way.
Thank you for all the feedback and communication on this @fabiofava! We’ll certainly share any updates regarding changes around the Forums here along the way
We don’t have anything like that specifically for Local. I just meant that we will spread the word in the forums here. We also share update notes in our releases page of what was changed or fixed with each rollout.
People from WPMU DEV got back to me about my Feedback/Suggestion on making it connected to LocalWP. They use it there for Local Development, and I hope they’ve also contacted you privately.
I’m at your (and their) disposal to help in any way at my reach, to make this work and to keep LocalWP growing and being this amazing software.
