Connect to WPMU DEV Hosting

Answer as much information as you can so the community can get a better idea of what it takes to create a Connect integration for a new hosting provider.

Hosting Provider Details:

  • Name: WPMU DEV
  • URL: https://wpmudev.com/
  • Describe how the WordPress site is hosted. For example:
    • They use some sort of stack, with an easy interface.
    • It is, but I’m not sure if they use Docker or some other.
    • They have Static Server Cache and Object Cache, don’t think they have Elasticsearch, but they offer DNS, email and many other services.
  • I currently use All-in-One WP Migration and Backup, uploading the file to a fresh WP install on my hosting, and restore it.

Thank you for sharing this @fabiofava!

I’ll share a snippet I’ve commented on some other similar posts here just for transparency.

Technically we do have an open add-on concept, so any host could build a connect add-on if they desired. We don’t have any documentation specific to building a Connect add-on, so development could be tricky and require a lot of back and forth and troubleshooting. To date, no other hosts have ever contacted us about building something like this out. Many popular WordPress hosts out there instead have tried to come up with or improve their own alternatives for local development.

That said, we are exploring some future enhancements with Local Connect to potentially make things a bit easier for users to move sites back and further between Local and whatever host they choose. No further details or ETA at this time, but I just wanted to mention that it is on our minds

No hurry, it will be just great if you tell me what I should say and/or ask to WPMUDEV (where I host), in order to be able to make this happen. They’re open-minded, and this would start a new era for LocalWP, as other companies could use it instead of reinvent the (Fly)Wheel.

I’m and I’ll be always with LocalWP, I’ve seen it come along and now what we see is beautiful. We’d just need MariaDB on LocalWP for MacOS, and LocalWP trying to open sites on port 443 before trying port 80 (trying SSL before non-SSL). Nothing that hard.

Love your software, it’s pure art. Thank you for keeping it! Cheers!
