Export onto a zip file, is it possible to import the same file to live site using WordPress?

Hi Everyone or Support Team.

After using LocalWP software to Export onto a zip file, is it possible to import the same file to a live site using WordPress? Because I do not have WP Engine or FlyWheel hosting on a live WordPress site.

Hi @hi5max

Even though Local Connect only works directly with WPE and FW you can take your site anywhere using a variety of methods!

If you’re using a WordPress host, they might even offer to migrate your site for you if you provide them the files/zip. Or they might have some recommendations or workflows that are best for getting your site live on their hosting. So for starters, I would check there.

Many of our users rely on Migration plugin solutions to take their sites where they wish, and for that we generally recommend WP Migrate DB.

If you’re a bit more technical, there are other was you can move files and folders to a live site using things like SFTP and SSH as well.

I am thinking of directly using Local software to export a site, and the zip file would be imported onto a hosted site. Do I need any more tweaks?

Will Local consider adding “Manual” transfer features and functionality for users without WP Engine or Fly Wheel hosting accounts?

hi5max – Hopefully, by “Live site” you really mean “Staging site” because uploading/installing zip files to an already live site is rather risky – unless this is a new “under construction” site.

It’s going to require more steps no matter which way you go about it, but these things can vary depending on your webhost and your experience level. So it’s tough to say for certain here.

We’ve been considering alternative options we can “bake in” to Local to help make things for users to take sites to other hosting options. We don’t have any kind of ETA to provide on this however.
