Gettig warning message Local's router is having trouble starting

What issue or error are you experiencing?

Posting this as the previous postings all seem from a ling time agao and I dont seem to be able to acces anything other than the initial message.

out of seemingly nowhere I get the “Local’s router is having trouble starting message.”

I have not recently updated nor added any software.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

each time I start, even after fully restarting mac and having ensured nothing running on port 80 the message is delivered and I cannot access the developing sites

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @raf

I’m not seeing any recent entries in your logs that you shared. There are some different ways to access and share Local Logs. For us to be able to troubleshoot thoroughly, please click the Download Local Logs button from the Support tab in Local. This will generate a zip archive that contains the Local log along with some other diagnostic information to help quickly zero in on any issues that Local is encountering. Retrieving Local’s Log File

Hi Nick.

thanks for speedy response.

I don’t see a support tab where is it? I see the help tab ( shot attached)

what is you need?

Thanks
Rob

If you click on the question mark on the left hand side of your Local app, that will get you to the help area, and then if you scroll down a little bit you’ll see that Download widget.

Gotcha!

Thank you @raf! There are some connection type errors in here.

Is there anything unique or new about the network you utilize? An office network, VPN, or network proxy?

What about if you change your router mode to Localhost? Any different there?

Or if you spin up a new, blank site in Local does that work normally?

thanks Nick,

I have been setting up and moving sites through development for months with no issues apparent.
Network at home, nothing unusual or changed, no changes to setup or updates to system software ( except on some plugins of the sites themselves)

A new blank site adds ok and can be seen in localhost but gives same router fault when attempting in domain mode.

localhost is not helpful at all as cannot paste anything in to canvas when working on the site.

??

Hi Nick,

on same network, installed Local on another mac. used an exported copy of the site I have been working on and it loaded and runs fine on there..

wondering if I should rub the slate clean of Local on this machine ( how) and reinstall?

Can I save the blueprints?

Rob

Hey @raf!

In order to refresh here and start with a clean slate, you could run through the steps below:

  • Export any sites that you have on Local and save them to a folder somewhere on your computer: Backup a Local Site - Local

  • Fully uninstall Local from your computer following the steps for your OS here: Uninstall Local - Local

  • Install the latest version of Local on this link: Releases - Local

  • Once installed, please restart the computer.

  • When the computer is restarted and turned on, close any applications that automatically run in the background (AntiVirus, Firewall, and other Developer applications included).

  • Check and see if the issue still persists. If so, please provide us with an updated log: Retrieve Local’s Log File - Local

Good morning Nick.

Well that runs ok- but of course in a plane devoid of all normal life on a mac…
I guess I now have to start up my usual programs ( all of which I have used happily along with Local for months) and see which if any now produce the issue?

I notice in the log many comments about the password type being deprecated and to use sha- is this internal in Local or specific to me?

thanks for getting me to here..

This wouldn’t be related. You can consider that a false positive. In fact, newer Local sites shouldn’t display this messaging at all as we made changes to start wiping it from logs since it was too noisy.

Going back to the root issue. After the full refresh are you saying Local and your sites are working again but only in Localhost mode or only with all other programs shut down?

Hi NIck,

all works normally, router running, I am slowly restarting the programs which normally run and background processes… hoping nothing breaks or if it does, being able to isolate it .

setup a new site and logging of deprecated issue continues..

Many thanks

Rob

Is the new site using the Preferred configuration? Or are you Customizing any of the setup values for PHP/MySQL?

Hi Nick,

yes custom PHP 8.4.4 ( default 8.2.27 version security support runs out end of this year. )

nginx and MySQL as preferred.

Rob

Thank you @raf - I’ll review that with our Dev team. If you run into any other trouble regarding your original issue however keep us posted!

thank you.
