How to copy websites on more than one computer

I am using local yet I own more than one laptop.
Being often in need to travel I am forced to use just one computer as accessing the app with the login does not allow me to have the same websites I am working on at the moment on both.
How could I copy the same websites I am currently working on on more than one laptop?

Hey @vickers!

Right now there isn’t a super simple way to work on multiple machines. Each instance of Local is essentially it’s own, and therefore so is each site. So if you’re going to be working between multiple machines what you’ll need to do is back up your sites to Cloud storage, and then import them and export them each time. We have a Cloud backups add on you can use for this, or you can do it yourself basically as well. Just export your site, save the zip in storage, and then on your second machine you’ll grab that zip and drag and drop it into Local to import it. Once you’re done with the second machine you’ll want to export the site to save the new copy in your storage.

Cloud Backups

Wouldn’t that be the same thing as putting it on an external drive? Exporting it to a zip file from your main computer onto the ext drive and then Importing it onto the secondary laptop? I’ve tried doing it like this and the export and import work fine and I’m able to work on my site but if I try to update any plugins or try to add any plugins I get an error message saying that “Update/installation failed: the package could not be installed”.

And if I try to export from my laptop and import it back to my main computer it still won’t let me update/install plugins.

Yep that’s the same essential workflow @LCP2023. The Update error you’re getting however is likely unrelated. That could be indicative of a conflict within the site itself or your connection to wordpress.org. For example if you create a new, blank site, are you able to add plugins there?

If you’re still having trouble can you share some further details?

  • What is your OS/OS version?
  • What is your Local version?
  • Is there anything unique about your connection? VPN, office network, hotspot, etc
  • Share a copy of your Local Log: Retrieving Local’s Log File

Thanks for the response. I’ve tried setting up a new site directly on my laptop and it does not allow me to install plugins.
Here’s a thought/question, I think I have my Local directory set to my laptop. Does this need to be set to the internal hard drive? Could this be a conflict?

I’ve resolved the issue. I changed the location of local directory to the internal hard drive for New Sites. I then made a Blueprint of the problem site and created a new site from the Blueprint. I opened the site and was able to update the plugins. I did need to update the URL with Elementor as the license did not match.
