I can't maximize or move LocalWP on Ubuntu 24

I upgraded this morning to the latest version.
It works fine, but the LocalWP dashboard cannot be maximized, moved or minimized. It appears in the left bottom corner of my screen (screenshot).
How do I fix this?

Version: Local 9.2.3 as Linux deb (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint)
OS: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS

I’m having the same issue. This black title bar at the top has completely disappeared, screenshot: Screenshot by Lightshot

This is very annoying - now I have to downgrade to an older version.

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS

Thank you for these reports, and sorry for this issue. I’ve shared it with the Local team so we can look into this.

I can reproduce the issue under Ubuntu 24. For now, some workarounds that may be helpful:

  • Use default Ubuntu shortcuts for window control:
    • Move the window around by holding down Super and dragging the window with your pointer (works the same by default with other apps on Ubuntu).
    • Maximize with Super↑.
    • Restore with Super↓.
    • Resize with AltF8, drag up/down or left/right, click to finish.
  • Access Local preferences via Ctrl,.
  • Quit with CtrlQ.

We’ll look into more permanent fixes but wanted to share these for those who’d prefer not to downgrade.

What is Super? Alt? Windows key? Ctrl?

It’s what most Linux systems call the Windows key.

I have the same problem after installing 9.2.3 today with the .deb file download.. No title bar, no menu bar, can’t move or resize or close it. Xubuntu 24.04 Upgraded from 9.2.2 because it couldn’t reach wordpress.org. 9.2.3 fixed that, so I don’t want to downgrade. Thanks for the work arounds, but half of those don’t work for me, either. Hope it get’s fixed soon.

I’m experiencing the same issue. The title bar is missing, which prevents me from knowing if a new version is available. I would appreciate it if you could address this in a future update.

ETA: I downgraded to 9.2.2 and everything is back to normal now.

Thank you for sharing @Jud and @JueAnnLee! The Local Team has this on their radar and will continue to investigate and share any updates here along the way. As @nickc mentioned, for any other users running into this problem you can either downgrade your Local version to 9.2.2 or use the steps here:

The new version does not have a toolbar or title bar in Ubuntu 24.0.
Does anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it?

Local Version: 9.2.3
OS version: Linux Ubuntu 24.0

FYI. I had the same issue so had to downgrade to get the Window controls etc back. Sadly the downgrade process was not that easy and I had to delete Local and then reinstall. ( Using Linux Mint )
During this I also found another annoying issue: The local site names move about as you start/stop and export them. This is extremely annoying.
Is there no way to either lock all the sites into position within their groups?
Or is there a way to automate the process - Start site - export it - stop site. Maybe from the command line?
Thks
Alan

Yes this is extremely annoying - one wonders how something that obvious passed testing. The “solution” seems to be to downgrade to V9.2.2 which restores proper function.

This is fixed in Local 9.2.4, available now.

Thanks for your patience while we worked on this, and sorry that we missed it.
