I can't update plugins/themes

I keep getting a white screen and the message: Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

Is this really maintenance or some error message?

Check the root of your install in your local site files and see if you can see a .maintenance file there? You might need to turn on the ability to view invisible files (those that start with a period are usually hidden). If you see that file delete it and you should be good to go…that is, unless something else is happening.

I’m not sure how to: check root of my install using Adminer…?

No…a little more information. Are you using Windows or Mac?

I’m using a Mac. I’m seeing 4 groups of files in my root@localhost screen

OK, perfect…in Local, click on this: http://grcwk.co/028ed1, it will open your files into Finder. Click on the folder, then app/public.

You will likely need to enable visible files temporarily. You can do this by pushing Command + Shift + . (period)

Then see if that .maintenance file is there.

My screen doesn’t look anything like your screen shot. Do I have to connect to Flywheel, then open my files? Sorry, I’m a bit confused.

Adminer was the link in the Local window.

You don’t need to be in the database, but in the site files. This is an issue with Local right? Or is this in production on your server?

Alternatively, your site files are located at:

/Users/username/Local Sites/sitename/app/public

I’m working on my MacBook Pro in dev mode.

OK, follow the path I gave you, on you MacBook Pro…

Then you will likely need to enable visible files temporarily. You can do this by pushing Command + Shift + . (period)

Then see if that .maintenance file is there.

Yes, it was there and I placed it in the trash. Thank you so very much for helping me. I have a better understanding now as a result of your patience. :hugs:

I was able to update all my themes and plugins without any problems.
