Live Link Troubleshooting

why doesn’t the permanent link load the page after a few minutes/hours? and why are some background images sometimes displayed and other times not? Thanks to those who respond

HEY THERE,
I can see that you are facing problem with permanent links not loading the page consistently and background images sometimes not displaying.
*** This could be due to a few reasons:***

Browser Cache: Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser to see if that resolves the issue.
Server Stability: Check with your hosting provider to ensure there are no intermittent server issues.
Internet Connection: Make sure your internet connection is stable.
Code Errors: There might be some errors in your code affecting the permanent links or images. Double-check the code for any mistakes.

Hi @fabri

Based on your description I wasn’t sure if you’re referring to Permalinks or to our Live Links feature in Local. If you’re still having trouble let me know and I’ll be happy to assist. @benjamin1’s recommendations are still a great baseline for troubleshooting issues as well.

the connection is ok like everything else but sometimes I get this error and some links remain in reconnection and I also get this message (screenshot)
error
and
the link goes intermittently and randomly on the various sites, I use the link as a draft for the various clients, can you help me? Thank you

If you’re trouble with specific links and images within your Live Link, you might run through the troubleshooting steps on our help article below here:

If you’re having trouble getting Live Links started or “staying up” then that could be a handful of things:

  • How is your connection speed?
  • Are you using VPN?
  • Are you on an office network?
  • Do you have any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local?
  • Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

Hi, I posted a wrong answer. no, I don’t have a VPN, and yes I have Avast antivirus installed, at the moment the links are working, I don’t understand why sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t

If you’re finding that it’s too intermittent and you can’t narrow down a culprit you could move the site to a free demo at Flywheel for 14 days in order to push and share your changes. Demo Site

If you want to keep testing for culprits, Avast could certainly be one.

I also noticed in your first post you mentioned it not loading after “hours”. Live links aren’t meant to be a long term, permanent view of the site. The Live Link will only stay up as long as the site and Local app are running and your machine is online. There are natural timeout limits that will sever the connection if you’re trying to leave the Live Link enabled for say 24 hours or something.

hi what should I do with avast? it protects my computer but if I turn it off I am exposed to threats

You don’t have to disable it completely but you can check and see if it’s trying to block connections. The steps on this article might help in the section Allow internet access to an application

You could also try searching their Forum:

I’ve done all the modifications to the stable avast network but nothing changes, the links are always unstable. This is frustrating my clients can’t see their site being worked on

Can you clarify “the links are unstable”? When you share the Live Link with a client is it timing out or giving a specific error message?

Are you using an office/work network?

How is your connection speed?

Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

home network, speed is excellent, I don’t use anything like MAMP, XAMPP, it always loses the connection and also when it’s active it doesn’t load the images well, I’ll leave you 2 images

Have you done any troubleshooting with the images? Checking to see in the dev console if there are any mixed content or insecure errors? Checking to see if you have any plugins or themes that need cache flushing or CSS Regeneration?

As far as the connection issue, can you try restarting Local and then only running the site that needs Live Link enabled? I noticed you have a lot of lots running at the same time in your app which might be causing timeouts.

I’ll try to see if there are errors and limit the links to 1/2 sites… it seems to work
