Local only transferred a fraction of the images

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I pulled from the live site to my local, went great, however I’m now noticing that only a fraction of the images were pulled. This is a fairly large site with many product SKU’s and images for those products, only the most recent uploads were pulled. Older images added longer than a couple months ago didn’t pull. Using FTP I grabbed the entire uploads folder and copied it to my local uploads folder, skipping any found files, but local still doesn’t show those files in wordpress. If I select any of those files I can import them to the media library, but the files are in the media folder and they aren’t showing up.

I also added the image optimization plugin to local and had it run on all the images hoping it would trigger a refresh of its knowing there are more images, and it found all of them and optimized all of them, but alas they still do not show on the site.

While we don’t have a hard limit on the size of a site that can be pulled or pushed with Local, sites that are 5 GB or larger are more likely to encounter issues or timeout limitations while utilizing Local Connect. That’s not to say sites around this size or larger can’t be pushed or pulled, but results may vary. For larger sites, we generally recommended directly importing a backup instead of pulling and then using a migration method alternative to pushing.

When you directly upload media via SFTP you’ll need a plugin to sync things up as WordPress doesn’t do this automatically. I believe the WordPress Importer plugin can help with that.
