Local overriding pulled github files

I’ve been backing up my site on github periodically and completely mucked it up experimenting with a new theme so I pulled the last version I’d pushed to github and when I run the site it still shows all the changes I wanted to get rid of. I assume localhost is backing up and syncing its own changes somehow but I don’t know how to get it to stop doing that. Maybe my assumption is wrong but that’s my best guess.

I’ve tried resetting (git reset --hard origin/main) and when I launch the site it still reverts. My knowledge on this kind of stuff isn’t too in-depth so I’m pretty out of my element here.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

I’m not really sure how I would replicate it in another folder, I guess I could make another site, push changes and download it to see if it happens with another site? I have tried multiple times with the same site and the result is always the same.

For future reference, for just creating site backups we also have a baked in Cloud Backups feature you could utilize as well:
