Local seems to have uninstalled during a Mac restart and has lost my website

What issue or error are you experiencing?

On Mac 12.7.6 I had installed Local 9.1.1 a week ago and have spent a lot of time building a new site which worked fine with WP. I restarted my Mac last night and today Local has disappeared, no application exists, just the original downloaded file.

Before I reinstall Local and possibly overwrite anything I want to know have I lost a week’s work building my new site, how do i stop this happening again and was there a mistake that I made when restarting my Mac? The absence of a log file and installed application makes me wonder if I was somehow using Local in memory even though I thought I had installed it following instructions on an online training course. Thanks.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

No Local log file exists in my log folder after following the instructions in the help document

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @SecretSanta

You should search your device first and see if you still have a Local Sites folder anywhere because your site files might still be there just shifted. If you can find them you can reimport the site back into Local.

For future reference you can always back up your work a few different ways. You can use our Cloud Backups Add On:

Cloud Backups

You can use Local’s native export feature to export a zip copy of your site to save on your external or Cloud Storage:

Or you can use any number of backup plugins to do something similar to the above as well.

Many thanks for this. Just to confirm for future readers this solution has worked - I had no log files and Local had uninstalled but my Local Sites folder was there. I think what I had failed to do initially was to drag the Local application into my Mac’s application folder (despite the clear instruction) so I had been using it without it being fully on my hard drive. That was my bad. Well done to Nick and the team for this prompt service.
