Local wants to use your confidential information stored in "Chromium Safe Storage" in your keychain

I am suddenly being presented with the prompt “Local wants to use your confidential information stored in “Chromium Safe Storage” in your keychain” on macOS Sonoma (screenshot attached).

What does this mean? Why am I all of a sudden being prompted? Will Local still function if I choose “deny”? Is there a way I can prevent this from being asked in the first place?

This was part of an update in the latest release.

Using Electron’s safeStorage module, user tokens and credentials when connecting to Local Hub, Flywheel, and WP Engine now go through additional encryption when stored and accessed on a user’s machine.

So that message is basically asking for permission to read and write encrypted user data.

On macOS, the record appears in Keychain Access if you need to review it:
