Every time I open Local, I encounter multiple errors: Missing MySQL v8.0 then “Uh-oh! Unable to start site” followed by the MySQL reinstall, then Unable to swap services / Command Failed mysqld --defaults-file=my.cnf etc. (see screenshots).
Steps to reproduce
Turn Mac on
Launch Local (loads with red “Missing MySql” warning at the top)
Click Start Site
Local tries to install MySQL and sometimes succeeds but usually says “command failed” on trying to run mysqld.

Please provide your Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:
Hi Nick, thanks for replying. I first used Local about 2 weeks ago and it has been buggy the whole time. I’ve updated my OS twice (Catalina > Monterey > Ventura). It always loses MySQL following a reboot then is unable to access files. I don’t have another LAMP stack or similar apps running. I’ve checked with our IT and they can’t find anything likely to cause this on my Mac or the Network. I reinstalled Local again 2 days ago and have been putting my Mac to sleep instead of shutting down since then - it’s still running fine so the issues appear to be related to losing settings on shut down/startup.
Okay so for right now Local is working as intended but if you do a full shutdown or reboot it begins to have problems again? Will it revert to the same type of errors above or something else now?
Yes it is working and it has the errors every time I run it following a reboot. I don’t know what it will do now as I’m working towards a deadline and it will be a week or so before I can risk shutting down again.
Can you share your local log here? Just in case it’s captured anything new since your original post and I’ll pass it along to the devs. There are some different ways to access and share Local Logs. For us to be able to troubleshoot thoroughly, please click the Download Local Logs button from the Support tab in Local. This will generate a zip archive that contains the Local log along with some other diagnostic information to help quickly zero in on any issues that Local is encountering.
It’s been working for a couple of days now since I updated my OS to Ventura.
I was leaving the Mac on Sleep overnight to avoid shutting down, but we had a power cut this morning and it loaded without any errors - the site is running on its .local domain.
Router mode is Site Domains (I wasn’t aware of this setting and haven’t changed it.) I don’t want to mess with it until I’ve finished work on this website so won’t try changing it back to Localhost.
I installed the MacOS build as this is an Intel Mac (2019).
Glad to hear things are working for you now @abcwarrior! If you have any other questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach back out. We are always happy to help!
