Previous Local websites

Issue Summary

My hard drive failed with my Local application, so I needed to reinstall the localWP install.

Troubleshooting Questions

I had 20 websites on my last install and they were saved to a different SSD in local folders
All the websites are present but it is not showing them in the new installation under “Local Sites”, I created a new website and that is showing within the SSD folder and is active. I just need to make the other 19 websites visible and active within LOCAL WP

Hello @geckografix - welcome to the Local community!

If you navigate to the Local Sites folder, are your sites visible?

Shared with CloudApp

If you open up your sites.json file, are all of the sites visible?

Shared with CloudApp

Let’s start there!

Sam

Yes if you refer to the image attached, you will see the very top website ACSS folder, this is the last website I added once I reinstalled LOCAL onto my system, all the other files are previous websites from prior to my hard drive crash and subsequent reformatting , I kept all my websites separate to the operating system drive for this VERY reason. When I open up Local installation, ACSS is the only visible installation, yet is quite clearly saved alongside all my previous installations prior to the failure of the operating system hard drive

.

I have no sites.json file anywhere ?

Hi @geckografix - thanks for that context. Are you able to locate the Local file I have shown in the screenshot above?

That’s where that file would be. Let me know if you can find that one.

Sam

Thank you Sam,
YES! YES! YEHAA, I have found it.
I await your response.

But this json file only includes the current 4 websites that were added after my hard drive failure. :frowning:

Hi @geckografix -

Hmm, okay. I have an idea.

Can you try zipping up one of those sites you have access to that you showed in your original screenshot and drag it into Local (importing the site into Local)?

Let’s try that for one site and see if it works - it should if it has the wp-content folder as well as a sql database dump per the following help doc:

Let me know!

OK, my “LOCAL FOLDER” has approx. 30 websites, 4 of them were sites added after the reinstallation of LOCAL WP , I zipped one site and dragged it over to LOCAL WP and I initially I got the error (see attached image) but that was because there was already an unzipped file in my local folder, so I crossed my fingers and deleted the unzipped file and tried again…BOOM !!!
It worked - Thank you @sambrockway - sending a virtual hug :hugs:, appreciate you “sticking” with me on this.
