Hi there! I’ve been trying to set up a local site for a while and I haven’t been able to get past pulling down the files. The process always seems to get stuck half way and I’m not sure how to trouble shoot this (can’t find any logs). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
For me, this was resolved by uninstalling the program, deleting the left over data in the appdata folder, restarting, and installing with all defaults left alone. I was able to get sites pulled down and working as intended.
Getting them back to a live site without breaking everything is another story
Just tried pulling a site down for the second time - the first time being when the feature was first released and I couldn’t get it to work.
Today, I got stuck at “Downloading and Extracting Files” for a tiny 100mb site. No progress bar indicator, and definitely no idea how to fix this either.
Hey all,
Sorry for the trouble with Connect!
Is this when pulling from WP Engine or Flywheel?
Also, you can always reach out to either Flywheel or WP Engine support directly, depending on where your site is hosted, for help with Connect.
This is when pulling from WP Engine.
Are you able to provide a snippet of the logs while you pull from WP Engine? You can find the local-lightning.log, following this guide.
It will also be helpful to know your OS version and your Local version.
Same problem, seems to stop at “Downloading and Extracting Files…”.
While waiting, if you go to Preferences and back, the site appears to be imported, but in reality there are only folders: _wpeprivate
and .wpe-devkit
in the app folder.
I’m on Local v5.4.1 (newest version won’t even connect to WP Engine). MacOS Mojave.

Many thanks
macOS Catalina 10.15.5 beta (didn’t work with 10.15.4 either) + Local 5.4.1+3311.
I was able to pull from WP Engine when not downloading the database. But when I tried getting the database downloaded too, this is the error:
{"thread":"main","class":"DevKitService","level":"info","message":"\u001b[1;31m\rError: \u001b[0munknown error encountered downloading database: Unable to pull database: exit status 1\n","timestamp":"2020-05-24T00:30:37.167Z"}

There’s also no way to stop pulling once it’s started… so if there’s an error, I don’t see a way to stop it.

I’m experiencing a similar issue on Windows 10.

Hopefully we can get this resolved soon so we can start using the newest version of Local. Thanks a ton.
Hey @jg314 –
That specific error of:
Unable to pull database: exit status 255
was due to a recent bug that should be fixed with the latest version of Local. Can you try downloading and installing 5.6.9
and see if that fixes things for you?
Thanks @ben.turner. I manually upgraded to 5.6.9 and the problem was fixed. I really appreciate the quick support there.
