Site login not working, mailpit inbox not receiving messages

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I have a site whose database I have downloaded using the plugin WP Migrate and imported into my local copy using AdminerEvo. The plugin has already been configured to do the proper search and replace to ensure that the tables will point to the correct local url.

When I attempt to log in I am given a log in error, even though this should be the exact same login as the live site. Stranger still, when I go through the process of resetting my password, I do not get an email through Mailpit but through my actual email registered on the live site.

I followed the directions to reset an admin password found here but I am given the error event not found: &u7R.

I have access to another system administrator account and, strangely, I am able to log in with this one. It also seems that I can update my password through the email sent to my real email address, and this is how I ultimately resolved my issue.

I’m mainly curious what happened here. What is causing my user account to be different when importing to my local copy, and why is an email being sent to my real email address and not Mailpit?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc.

  • Due to the context, I don’t have specifc steps for recreating this issue.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @DyNOraZa! Definitely some curious events going on here. Does the site have any user management or security plugins installed?

It does, actually. It has User Role Editor, but my WP role is the standard Admin that ships with WordPress. Still, that could be a factor for sure.

UPDATE: I found that there was an update to the app, which I installed. I tried the process again and the same issues weren’t present. I’m still unsure what could have been happening, but I suppose it’s resolved with that update. :man_shrugging:
