I installed this on my Mac (iMac circa 2010, using High Sierra). I was able to use WPVivid to upload a copy of my site on my host (VPS, small company in the UK). However, the next day I open up local and I can no longer see my site or log into Admin.
I should note that this is the only one of several competing products that works on my Mac. Allso don’t know what command like STOP SITE means? Is it related.
You’ll want to make sure that the Local site has been started, otherwise, it won’t be able to handle any requests from the browser.
You also mention that
Do you mean that there are other offline development tools running? Something like Mamp, or Docker? You’ll likely want to stop any of those from running before starting Local and starting the individual sites in Local.

I think it was started. Not sure. I created a site. I opened it. i even uploaded backups from WPVivid, The next day i could not open. Or does START have another meaning?
Then I recreated the site and opened it. Looked at admin. The next day I could not open.
So I followed the advice you gave in October: "
> When you restart the Local and have a site active (ie, clicked on in the app), can you try clicking on another site and then clicking back to the original site?"
And sure enough now I have 3 sites and can click the first one… I am going to close and open again and stye if all is ok.
The other thing you asked:
> "Do you mean that there are other offline development tools running? Something like Mamp, or Docker? You’ll likely want to stop any of those from running before starting Local and starting the individual sites in Local.
No, sorry. What I mount that in succession I tried other programs. None would go past the creation stage.I could not open any. Server Press, Instant WP, Bitnami (the latter because it seems only to be for 64 bit computers). The others just would not create an instance locally. In all cases i had only Local running. So, so far so good with your advice from October. Next step is to try to update one or more of the 3 sites I have installed with WPVivid backups. If it then continues to load I will have an easy way to check the integrity of backups without using another hosting company.
yesterday I went back and created 3 sites. They all worked. Admin worked. Today they are running it says but i can’t connect to them. I tried to take a Quicktime movie, but that does not upload, so I took a few screenshots from the QT movie.
I wonder if it is my understanding or if my MAC has an issue.
Also, possibly unrelated, when I tried to upload backup0s from WPVivid’s Migration function, nothing happened. It just seems to be waiting forever, I have up after 20 minutes.
One of the screenshots shows the database etc not listed but I am not sure if that is normal or not.
If I go and create another site, then all the sites are again reachable. I can then delete that extra, unneeded site and the others are still ok. Until I shut down my Mac and reopen the next day.
(It is as if the next day when i open my Mac, none of the sites works, but after adding site all the other sites again work).
What is this bug I wonder, or am I misunderstanding how it works.
It does sound like a bug related to Local not being able to start the Local Router.
Can you click the “Download Local Log” button on the “Support” tab of Local? This will give you a zip file that has more information about what Local is running into. Can you upload that zip file here in the forums so that we can get a better idea of what’s happening?
(1) I deleted my sites thinking it was not working. I tried to create a new site but then the whole thing doesn’t load. Got an error message. I must have deleted folders.
(2) I went in and created a new user (Paul Arenson). But when I click to start, it still loads denise dennis, my old profile there must be something that is still resident on my Mac but I can’t find it.
(3) I want it to open my new profile and I can see in database is UNDER SOCKET
/Users/march2009/Library/Application Support/Local/run/rlnurtAEC/mysql/mysqld.sock
So I deleted this. NOW I can load my new profile in local.
But Creating a couple of sites, I get this error in both Admin and Site
] Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access this resource.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
So something must still be on my computer from the last install??? I am attaching the zip file.
Since you mention profiles changing, it’s possible that there are files or folders that are still “owned” by the original user which would mean that the new user wouldn’t have access to those files to run correctly.
Sometimes with a 403 Forbidden error, it is again related to permissions issues, but in the form of some antivirus that is blocking access to the folder.
The other thing is that it might be related to the version of MacOS – I notice that you’re using High Sierra. Are you able to try using Local on a newer version of MacOS? It’s been quite a while since High Sierra received an update and I think most organizations consider it to have reached its end-of-life.
Yes, I have concluded you are right. I do not have another Mac but as every other local program I have tried fails, it must be my machine. So reluctantly I have opened a cheap hosting plan with host mantis to be able to test backups.
Thanks for an interesting product, When I get a new Mac, I will try again.
