Trust-https on macOS and keychain beachballing

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I’ve always used the instructions here SSL Certificate on macOS - Local to setup https on my sites. Those steps have worked if I exited out of Local and came back in.

Now when I click the Trust link, enter my password when Keychain pops up, Local beachballs and I cannot force quit apps or access anything else, and I have press the power key on the MBP keyboard to force a restart. I use this feature a lot, so I’m not sure when exactly this changed, maybe in the last week or so?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

  • click the Trust link after importing a new site from a zip file
  • enter mac password when keychain pops up
  • locate the site url and change to always trusted per the instructions
  • beachball starts in local and I cannot recover, I have to hold down power button on MBP keyboard to restart
  • previously I used to exit Local and relaunch and it refreshed the the site URL to HTTPS and the Trust link showed enabled and all was well

System Details

  • Local Version: Version 9.2.5+6810

  • Operating System (OS) and OS version: MacBook Pro M3 Pro - macOS Sequoia 15.5.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @gscoolidge!

Is this a personal device where you would retain all admin perms and so on? Or a device issued by an employer?

Have you tried a full uninstall and reinstall of Local yet? Something could be amiss in the configuration here to cause a problem. If you don’t have a lot of projects to back up and save you could run through these steps.

  • Export any sites that you have on Local and save them to a folder somewhere on your computer: Backup a Local Site - Local

  • Fully uninstall Local from your computer with your OS specific steps here: Uninstall Local - Local

  • Install the latest version of Local on this link: Releases - Local

  • Once installed, please restart the computer.

  • When the computer is restarted and turned on, close any applications that automatically run in the background (AntiVirus, Firewall, and other Developer applications included).

  • Check and see if the issue still persists. If so, please provide us with an updated log: Retrieve Local’s Log File - Local

To answer your question, it is a company laptop that has all the silly security stuff, however, that wasn’t the issue – it’s working now like it did before.

I believe this was user error – I think I got in a hurry on a couple of sites, so when I clicked the Trusted link, and that red/pink error notice shows at the top, I forgot to click the X to dismiss the error. This in turn caused a massive lockup on the whole MBP that forced me to hold down the power button to recover.

All good now!
