Unable to Install Site on LocalWP – Need Assistance

What issue or error are you experiencing?

Hi LocalWP,

I’m having trouble installing the software. I’ve tried three times, but I keep getting the following error messages:
“Unable to start site” and “Unable to provision site.”

At the end of each failed attempt, the software deletes the site automatically.

Please let me know how to resolve this.

Thank you.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hey @Belively , welcome to the Local Community Forums!

Can you provide a little more detail around how the site is being created? Are you importing a site from a Zip archive, or creating a new site by clicking the “plus” button in the lower-left corner of Local?

Taking a closer look at the Local logs, I see a number of errors that seem related to networking issues – almost like Local can’t reach anything across the network.

Do you have any antivirus or security settings (like from an IT department) which might be limiting the domains that you can access?

The reason I ask is that I’m noticing a number of errors like this:

{"class":"LightningServicesService","code":"ENOTFOUND","errno":"ENOTFOUND","level":"error","message":"request to https://getflywheel.github.io/local-lightning-services/site-services-v2.json failed, reason: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND getflywheel.github.io","stack":"FetchError: request to https://getflywheel.github.io/local-lightning-services/site-services-v2.json failed, reason: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND getflywheel.github.io\n    at ClientRequest.<anonymous> (%%appPath%%\\node_modules\\node-fetch\\lib\\index.js:1491:11)\n    at ClientRequest.emit (node:events:530:35)\n    at ClientRequest.emit (node:domain:489:12)\n    at emitErrorEvent (node:_http_client:104:11)\n    at TLSSocket.socketErrorListener (node:_http_client:518:5)\n    at TLSSocket.emit (node:events:518:28)\n    at TLSSocket.emit (node:domain:489:12)\n    at emitErrorNT (node:internal/streams/destroy:170:8)\n    at emitErrorCloseNT (node:internal/streams/destroy:129:3)\n    at process.processTicksAndRejections (node:internal/process/task_queues:90:21)","thread":"main","timestamp":"2025-05-14T08:11:09.355Z","type":"system"}

which seems to indicate that Local is having problems getting the latest MySQL lightning service from the getflywheel.github.io/local-lightning-services/ url. This is important because a newer version of MySQL has some adjustments to more gracefully handle DB issues when starting a site.

You might review this help doc for a more complete list of URLs that the machine will need access to in order to get updates:

Can you take a look at those URLs and see if allowing access to them for the computer will allow new sites to be created?

Thanks @ben.turner for the information and guidance. I realized that after downloading the software, to create the first site (which I intend to do), you have to be online, which is the cause of those error messages. Let me try again and I will provide feedback.

Hi @Belively! Checking back here to see if you were able to get things working?

Not yet. I am still working on a probable solution using the allowlist.

I tried configuring the allowlist for the following URLs, based on a guide I found via search on how to configure the network firewall:

https://api.wpengineapi.com/
https://app.getflywheel.com
https://cdn.localwp.com/
https://getflywheel.github.io

I set the ports to 443, tried the alternative 8443, and even allowed “All Ports” — but I’m still encountering the same issue:

Unable to provision site
Unable to start site
Ultimately, deleting it.

At one point, I received a message mentioning “Host Redirection.”

The problem persists. Kindly help me troubleshoot or suggest what else to try.

Hi @Belively

It looks like you’re getting the first prompt but not the follow up, second prompt to allow the device to continue. As a quick check you could look at those notification settings to make sure nothing is restricted. Here are some screenshots:
