Unable to provision site (Ubuntu 18.04)

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I followed the steps to install and setup a new wordpress site but it doesn’t work. Here are some screenshots of what I see when I try to make the first site:

After these errors, I get this notification:

Then, as it is deleting the site auto, it asks me for permission:

There is no option given to me to give it the permission to write to the host file. For some reason the only time the authentication is asked for is when deleting things. In the demos I have seen, it just works! Why is it running into these issues for me?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Just use Ubuntu 18.04 and install local using the recommended approach on the site. Then start a new site. Enter site name, wp username/password, preferred settings and click next.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @fahim24

Have you tried doing a system reboot yet to see if you can start a new site after that?

Do you have any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local? It looks like from the log it might be having trouble connecting.

More details about troubleshooting this here: Router Mode

Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

If none of the above is applicable and you’re still having trouble, instead of using the Preferred environment, try using the Custom environment and see if it works if you change the server type and/or lower the PHP version.

Keep us posted and we’d be happy to help further!

Hello Nick!

No. I don’t have those things blocking local.

I tried the router mode stuff but that made zero difference unfortunately.

None of the ones you listed but I do have conda environment installed on my system.

I think I did try that once and it didn’t work. I might give that a few more goes to try out variations.

Just to be clear, this app is supposed to download and install those tools for me, right? Or do I need them preinstalled on my system?

JFYI I setup a virtualbox ubuntu server and installed WP on it. Using that with port forwarding settings for now. Wish I didn’t have to undertake all that work and localwp just worked on my system. Don’t know if it is because it is an old OS!

I will come back to report once I try out different configs!

Thanks again!

Hi @fahim24

Yes Local should just work but I don’t have an Ubuntu 18 OS I can do any testing on in the moment but I know in the past users have had success with it.

Keep us posted after any testing or if you see any new errors or messages.
