Uninstall and re-install localWP fresh on Mac - resolved

Issue Summary

After migrating from MacBook Air to iMac (Catalina), LocalWP by Flywheel (5.9.0) stopped working. Sites running PHP7.4 would not start, nor did Live Link work (images would not show). Installing a new site on PHP7.4 resolved to errors such as “Error: Command failed” etc.
Uninstall and reinstall did not help. Tried reinstalling old versions etc. Turns out that the culprit was left-over files in Application Support that messed up the install (step 4 below).

Following steps DID work and resolved the issue;

  1. Uninstall LocalWP (drag app to wastebasket)
  2. Download VirtualBox by Oracle (don’t install) and run VirtualBox_Uninstall.tool (not sure this made a difference, actually)
  3. Remove the folder Local Sites (under users > [user])
  4. Search for “getflywheel” on the mac and check the path; rename or delete the file “Local” under Library > Application Support. This step removed any trace of the previous install, and ensured that the re-install could be done fresh.

Then, optionally, re-install:
5) Download and install LocalWP.

Now, PHP7.4 works, and so does Live Link.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
    All.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
Yep, but only on PHP7.3. PHP7.4 creates an Error: Command failed.

Replication

Issue resolved:
