Addons weight, dependencies, servers footprint

Hi
I’ve just downloaded Instant CSS as it seemed a great addition to the workflow. As it downloaded I found a bit strange the amount of time it was taking.
Just before activating it, I was curious to see its weight… 59Mb (!?)
Most of the weight comes from all the node_modules… 295 (!?)
Just curious, I’m not a programmer, and for future proof, is it really necessary all this to refresh a page?
Thanks

Hi, @ridesirat!

Are you using this to work on a single site or multiple sites? Just curious if the time is still elongated for every page on each site, or is it case by case?

Hi @Nick-B
Thanks for the quick feedback.
Sorry, I didn’t explain myself very well. I never started to use it. That was only the download time/weight of the addon to install on Local.
I was planning to use it in every site I work on. Multiple sites but not WP Multisite.
My reaction was only because I was surprised by the amount of “dependencies”(?). But I’m not a programmer, so, don’t mind me too much.
It was just a thing to think of and only if it makes any sense.

Hi, @ridesirat! Sorry for my misunderstanding I thought you were running into slowness while using the Add On.

If you wanted to take a look behind the curtain, you can see more details about the Add On here:

Sometimes the long installation time for Add Ons can actually be a side effect of other conflicts going on within the app or your machine. So if you have continued issues with this or other Add Ons, we could dive deeper into your OS, logs, etc

Hi @ridesirat -

Speaking from personal experience, this add on is very useful while developing a site where you’re making a lot of changes to the CSS - plus you can always disable per-site it if you don’t need it after all

That said, to expand even more on @Nick-B’s comments above…

Under the hood, most of the code exists to communicate between Local, the files the Addon is watching, and the Browser (leveraging BrowserSync).

Let us know if you run into trouble if you start using it, though!

Hi @Nick-B & @sambrockway
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. Really appreciate it.
I’ll give it a try for sure. And let you now if something comes up.
Thanks, once again.

Hi @ridesirat -

Sounds wonderful! For now, I’ll close out this issue, but feel free to come back to the forums if you run into problems.

Thank you for being in the Local community! :green_heart:
