How can I change the local root folder (where all the individual site folders live) without having to re-import all my sites?
I’ve done some due diligence on researching this issue and here is what I found:
- People have been asking for a fix for this issue since 2017 and it is now 2024 - 7 years later
- The answer given each time was effectively: You can change the site root folder for new sites, but for existing ones you have export and re-import
There are many issues that make having to re-import sites for me a huge pain point:
- It eats up about 10 minutes of time (per site) importing and then verifying that everything works
- Having to reactivate several pro licences
- Most of my “sites” are iterations of my company’s Elementor site (I’m the sole web developer). My boss ordered Elementor under his email, so whenever I create / import an Elementor site it asks for a 2FA, but the 2FA code gets sent to him (I’ve asked them and they don’t have any way of adding me as an “authorized user”) so I have to wait – sometimes for hours – for him to respond. The 2FA code only lasts for 15 min, so by that time it is way too late.
It really is disabling our workflow and productivity to not be able to quickly and easily change the local sites folder without all this hassle. Further, Laragon has that feature and I’m sure their team is much smaller than yours.
Since last year, LocalWP has been working for me great! I love the product, and I know others would like to see this as well (as evidenced by all these posts):
