Help installing SSL on Mac

I’ve attempted to use Local on and off for a few years now, but have never managed to correctly install an SSL. I’m using a Mac in this case, but have never had any luck on my Windows machine either.

  • Open Local
  • Create A New Site
  • Click Trust (get a hosts issue warning)
  • Open Keychain Access, find the site, and set it to Always Trust
  • Click Trust in Local (which does nothing)
  • Open the WP site, and install Better Search Replace to switch http:// to https://
  • Test the website again on various browsers/incognito, no certificate recognised

macOS Sonoma 14.2.1
Local 9.0.1+6673

Thanks for this bug report and for the helpful screencast, @AaronChaos.

This seems specific to Firefox (including Firefox Developer Edition). I can only reproduce it there. It seems the way Local generates certificates doesn’t meet Firefox’s expectations for self-signed certs.

I have logged this as a bug for the Local team to address in a future update. For now SSL should work for you in Chrome or Safari, but I’m sorry that it isn’t working by default in your preferred browser.
