Hey there, I’m a new user of this very cool platform and so far everything is going pretty well. I have an issue where I am creating a live link and then logging into that live link from another computer with admin privileges. Unfortunately, I am unable to upload any media or photos to my media library if I am at the remote computer. I can only upload images if I’m working on the host computer where the software is installed. Any tips?
What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc
Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.
What you’re running into is the intended functionality of Live Links. These are meant to be shareable links for display only. Such as sharing your progress with a client or peer, they aren’t meant to be a site you can interact with.
As an alternative, you could use our Cloud Backups add on to back up the site from Machine 1 and then import it on Machine 2. Of course you’d have to do this in reverse to update the site on Machine 1 as well.
Thanks, Nick. That’s too bad, actually. Would be great if one could administrate the site fully from the live link (we have been using MAMP Pro for this purpose and you get full admin from other computers, at least on the same network). Regarding cloud backups, neither Google Drive nor Dropbox was able to successfully connect and was unable to get that addon working. Not sure if that’s a permissions issue or something else, but couldn’t get either one of them to create the appropriate backup folders. I’ll reread the documentation to see if it’s something I can get working.
If the Cloud Backups Add On isn’t working you could go about this a few different ways as well. Local has a native export feature, so you could just export the site and save it to your Google or Cloud drive that way. You can also use a free plugin like WP Migrate Lite to create an export.
If you have a premium backup plugin that saves to a Cloud account you can always use that as well.
