Migrating a website from local to SiteGround (for beginners, please)

Hello,

I hope that all is well!

How can I migrate a website that was built in Local Version 8.1.0+6514 to SiteGround? I use a Mac OS Ventura 13.6.1. I do have a copy of the site files - if that helps.

I have never done this before, so instructions for beginners (or simpletons) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Have a great day!

Kind regards always,
Nicole

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something ,private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @nicolet301

If you’re going to be hosting with Siteground you might contact their support for the best way to migrate your Local site.

It looks like from their documentation they have a handful of different ways to accomplish a migration.

Or if you’d like to do it manually yourself they seem to have a thoughtful guide here:

Our recommendation for migrations is the plugin WP Migrate, but if you find using this too complicated it might be better to check with Siteground first and see if they can help you with heavy lifting

Hi @nick-b,

I hope that all is well.

Thank you so much for your reply! Based on what you’ve shared, I think I’d better contact SiteGround. Since I’m a rookie, I don’t want to mess things up with my site.

I so appreciate your time and help with this! Happy holidays to you and yours!

Warm regards always,
Nicole
