Migrating from DesktopServer

Hi there, to migrate from DS I just to migrate like it was from a different server using duplicator o wpclone or similar? or there is a faster/easy way? Thank you

Duplicator, BackupBuddy, WP Clone, etc are the best solutions at the moment.

There will be improvements to this workflow in the near future

Thank you Clay, and is there any issue if I installed both at the same time?

Nope!

You just have to make sure you don’t have a site with the same domain in both DesktopServer and Local. This will cause a conflict in the /etc/hosts file. So, when you import it into Local I would suggest using a different domain.

Hi. What is the status on migrating sites from DesktopServer to Local? I just tried to export a couple of sites from DesktopServer and imported to Local, and there were several issues.

Hi Vayu,

What errors did you run into? Did you try creating a backup with Duplicator (or similar) and then importing it into Local?

Hi Clay. I just exported the site from DesktopServer. I don’t remember what errors I got, I think it was database related. But it did not work after I imported the sites I had exported from DesktopServer.

If you go that route you’ll need to make sure that the database information in wp-config.php matches what’s in the “Database” tab for that site in Local.

Also, you may need to run a WP-CLI search-replace to update the domain if you change it. Here’s how you can do that: Problem of redirecting the local site to online site

Thanks! That’s a shame, because I have a lot of sites, and if I do decide to start using Local instead of DesktopServer, then I have to move more than a 100 sites, which could take some time.
