I have an iMac and a MacBook. My site is all set up on my iMac, and I want to restore it to my MacBook as well, so I can use both machines. Is this possible?
Related to this, when I try to restore from my Google Drive backup (that I created on the iMac) to my MacBook, the site never completes and it doesn’t work.
My Blueprints created on the iMac also don’t show up on the MacBook, even though I’m logged into the same Local account.
Troubleshooting Questions
Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular? I only have one site in local for now.
Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser? Yes
Replication
Describe the steps that others can take to replicate this issue. If you have screenshots that can help clarify what is happening, please include them!
System Details
Which version of Local is being used?
Local 6.4.1+5978 on both machines.
What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
MacOS Monterey 12.4 on both machines.
Attach the Local Log. See this Help Doc for instructions on how to do so:
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.
Hello @ericaeide - welcome to the Local Community!
Thank you for bringing your question here.
To clarify, the Local account doesn’t store or persist site information across machines as it is all local to the computer the site is created on.
That said, it sounds like there might be an issue happening with Cloud Backups - I would suggest exporting the site from your iMac and then importing that site onto the MacBook.
You can follow this help doc to export from Local:
and this help doc to import into your second machine:
As for the Blueprint, those are found in the blueprints directory and can be exported from your first machine into your second.
The file location for the blueprints can be found at the bottom of this help doc under the FAQ “How do I navigate to the Blueprint files on my local machine?”:
You’ll want to restart Local after adding the blueprint into that folder to be able to use it.
Thanks for sharing that. Yes, it looks like something weird is happening with the cloud backups, but I’m glad to know that you were able to use the export / import workflow.
As for the Blueprints, for a Mac, so long as you’ve saved them inside of Local, they should be available under ~/Library/Application Support/Local/blueprints.
