Pressmatic sites disappeared after installing Flywheel

I had Pressmatic on my local machine and I installed Flywheel. Once I opened Flywheel, once I tried to go back to Pressmatic to export check my sites, all of them disappeared from the left side.

Now, I cannot install a site with a link that existed on my machine before. It says that I already have that site. What should I do now? I cannot create the same sites but I cannot find my old sites either.

After opening Local did your existing Pressmatic sites not show? I guess I’m just trying to see why you need to go back to Pressmatic. Local should handle all of your existing sites.

Just for the record, when you open Local the first time it will migrate your existing Pressmatic data and you should not re-open Pressmatic since the data has been migrated.

We’ll get to the bottom of this though .

I don’t need to go back to Pressmatic. I tried to open again Pressmatic (after closing for a little Local) and I couldn’t see any site, the list on the left was blank. When I opened Local again, the list with the sites on the left (that had the sites before closing it) was gone too.

I don’t mind starting all my sites from scratch. I just need to know how to get all the site back or remove all of them because I want to use the same links.

Can you browse to ~/Library/Application Support/Local by Flywheel and see if there’s a sites.json file there? If so, can you also verify that it’s not empty?

To browse to that location quickly you can open Finder, press Command + Shift + G, then paste that path from above.

It’s not empty, I have just one item, the one that I created recently, after this “sites disappearing problem”, with Local.

Can you screenshot the contents of both directories (Local by Flywheel and Pressmatic)?

Again, sorry for the trouble!

I hope you don’t mind but I ended up by using only Local and removing Pressmatic. I started by creating again my sites and I will remove Pressmatic for good. Should I expect any problem in the feature? I suppose that everything will be just fine.

I have about 30 projects in Pressmatic right now, are you saying it’s best to wait before starting to use local until all of the issues are fixed?

Hey Corey,
I guess that this was just something strange only on my side. I guess that @clay can come here with a better answer but, if you just install Local and stop using Pressmatic, everything will be fine. Maybe my mistake was that I tried to open Pressmatic again or something like that. Local is importing automatically all the sites, with no problem. Something strange happened only on my side

Hey @clay, i’m just now getting around to updating from pressmatic to local. I followed the thread, and can confirm that I don’t have a sites.json file at the location you specified. When using pressmatic, I did however override the Default Site Path, and I have all of the files saved, so I imagine it’s just a matter of recreating and, at worst, I can recreate it manually if you can pass along the schema.

Rich

Hey Rich,

Are you missing the Pressmatic directory in ~/Library/Application Support/?

Also, can you screenshot the contents of Local by Flywheel and Pressmatic (if it exists)?

@clay after creating a new install, i now see sites.json

Correct, I do not have a Pressmatic folder, but i expected that since the instructions for updating to local are to delete the pressmatic app before installing the new version.

Ah, okay.

Did you uninstall Pressmatic using something like AppZapper that also removed the Application Support folder for Pressmatic?

yeah i used clean my mac

Yeah, that’ll unfortunately do it.

If CleanMyMac only moved those files to the Trash (and you didn’t empty it) you may be able to recover sites.json.

Otherwise, I would recommend re-adding the sites and importing the SQL with Adminer or Sequel Pro.

it will need to be the latter, clean my mac immediately clears out the trash. thanks for the update. It might be worth adding a note to the FAQ which files to keep.
