What issue or error are you experiencing?

Am having difficulty accessing my wpadmin on local-wp I have tried all the solutions provided so far I even included the hosts and the local folders in the exclusion list on window defenders yet nothing works, the error message by the bottom left reads: " Local is requesting administrative privileges to modify your /etc/hosts file"
while the message at the top is; " Warning! Missing hosts entry. This site may be inaccessible
Actually I am reaching out to the community after hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting because I was told that it might be due to the WordPress vs wpEngine issue

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @Onasir

This wouldn’t be related to any recent events as those have had no impact on Local.

Generally speaking, when this type of error pops up there are a few things to check:

  • Are you running this program as an administrator?

  • Is the Hosts File set to Read Only?

  • Do you have any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local?

  • Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.
