Uh Oh! error and not letting me select an admin on the one-click admin PLEASE HELP ASAP

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I’ve been working on a client site through Local for several months, but today it’s showing a maintenance error and won’t load. I accidentally disabled the one-click admin option, and now it won’t let me re-enable it or choose an admin. I’m getting an “uh-oh” error message, and I’m really stressed since this is for a client. Can someone please help me resolve this?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I have been working on a site for months with no issues, on Friday however, it started to say it couldn’t access site and try back in a few hours. This was still going on today. I turned off the toggle on the one-click admin option in hopes to try to solve the issue and thought it would just let me click it back on as it has on other sites I have made but now when I click the toggle back on it will not let me select an admin and is now giving me an er

ror that says “uh-oh! unable to start site” I have attached it to this as well. Can anyone PLEASE help me, this is for a client and the site was basically completed and I feel sick to my stomach.

Sorry that you ran into this, @dwoservices. (I’ve merged the two separate topics you posted into this one.)

In order from least to most effort, you can try these:

  • Restart your machine.
  • Quit Local, stop any running MySQL processes in Windows Task Manager and reopen Local.
  • Recreate the site as a new one in Local by importing it from your filesystem, as described here: Import/Export a WordPress Site - Local (when prompted during import, give it a new name that differs from the current site name).

Hi Nickc,
Thank you for reaching out to me, I truly appreciate it. The problem I am having is since Local will not let me turn the toggle on in the “one-click admin” I am unable to do anything. When I do turn the toggle to “on” it gives me the error. The site is only on Local in my computer and I cannot access the site at all to even back it up. I hope that makes sense. Do you by chance know why it won’t let me turn the admin back on?

Hi @dwoservices

A couple of things here to help make sure your site is backed up and also to help troubleshoot your errors.

  1. You can manually search for your Local Sites folder on your device, find the folder for this site and copy it’s contents. That way you can be assured everything is backed up and your work isn’t lost.

  1. Can you create a new, blank site in Local and access that okay? If that works normally, then you can find your same file, zip it up, and try importing it into Local to spin up a new version of your same site.

Hi Nick,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all your help – I truly appreciate it!

I was able to clone the site today, and while I’m not sure what changed, I’m happy it worked. I can now select the admin, which is great. However, when I click on the WP admin, I’m redirected to a page that says, “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this? It seems like we’re making progress, and I’m hopeful it’ll be sorted soon.

Thank you again for your continued support!

Is this your site within Local or your site on Flywheel?

Update! Now I am able to access the back end, and it is all there, just really slow but thank God! Again, thank you for everything! Do you have any idea why that would have happened?! Should I push the site to my Flywheel account just to get it on Flyhweel, even if it’s not live yet?

I forgot to answer your question, it is within Local for now

You can certainly push the site to Flywheel if you want to have a copy of it there. That way it’s backed up. You can also keep Privacy Mode enabled on Flywheel as well if you don’t want it getting live traffic yet.

Within Local, you can also back up the site in a few different ways. You can use our Cloud Backups add-on or just export the the site now that it’s working with our native export process.

As far as how things got to the error that’s tougher to say. Usually what happens is extra processes are running and competing with each other. That’s what @nickc was trying to help resolve in his original comment.
