Unable to Import Backup to Local

Issue Summary

Whenever I import a backup of my live site from local it importing successfully but then it looks like the database won’t come with it. All I see is the classic Hello World base wordpress rather than the live site backup that should be displaying.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?

At the moment all of my Local sites.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?

Yes

Replication

Whenever I encounter this issue I am following this article:

So I download my backup, get the ZIP file, then import it into local.

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?

6.4.1

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
    • For example: macOS Catalina or Windows 10 Professional

Mac OS Monterey 12.4

local-lightning.log (25.5 KB)

Security Reminder

Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hello @StephenSpeak - welcome to the Local Community!

Thank you for bringing your question here.

I’m glad to see you found the help doc around importing your site to Local.

Have you ensured that you have the sql database dump file inside of the zip file you are importing?

Where is the site you’re importing coming from?

Thank you!

Hey Sam! I am not sure if I have ensured that I have the sql database dump file inside of the zip file. I am just taking the ZIP file that I get when you download a backup from flywheel.

So the site is coming from a backup folder generated by Flywheel.

Hi @StephenSpeak - got it, thanks for explaining!

Instead of exporting the site from Flywheel and importing into Local have you tried using Local Connect and pulling your site to Local that way?

Here’s information on how to do that:

Let me know if that helps,

Hey Sam!

I was eventually able to get someone from Flywheel support to set up a Demo site of the backup I was trying to access.

The issue with Local Connect is that I wouldn’t have been able to select the backup version of the site that I wanted to pull down since only Staging and Production are options to pull down.

Thanks though!
