I haven’t yet tried the Dropbox sync method described here:
But here’s one thing that works for me when I’m going on a road trip with my laptop:
- Create a site on computer A (e.g., Desktop computer)
- Create a site with the same name on computer B (e.g., Laptop computer)
- Use UpdraftPlus (or another WordPress backup plugin) on computer A to back up the files and database to Google Drive (or the cloud storage system of your choice)
- Use UpdraftPlus on computer B to import (restore) the files from computer A that you backed up on Google Drive. You’ll have to rescan remote storage to see the files from computer A (The link for that is right above the list of backups)
- Reverse steps 3 and 4 to restore the files from computer B back to computer A
- Repeat steps 3-5 any time you travel
Switching back and forth is a little more work than the Dropbox method. But there’s nothing much to setting it up, and there’s not much that can go wrong because you’ve always got an up-to-date backup.
