I can't create a site

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I can’t create a site. When I do I get an error “Unable to start site” and it gets deleted again.


What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Create a new site from scratch.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

If you change your Router Mode to Localhost are you able to proceed? Preferences>Advanced>Router Mode>Localhost

Are you using any Local Add Ons like Instant Reload?

Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

I have the same problem, I’m unclear re how to change my router mode? Is this by logging in to the router itself? If so, where will I find the roiter mode setting?
(I have a talktalk WiFi router DG8041W)

This is within your Local app. If you click on the profile icon in the upper left hand corner of the app, you’ll get a drop down and see the Preferences

I’ve changed the router mode, but it does not solve the problem.

Are you also not able to create a new site at all? Or can you not access a previously created site?

Can you share some other details here?

  • What is your OS?

  • What version of Local are you on?

  • Please attach a copy of your Local Logs

I shut down my vpn to make it work.

This is the first time I have tried to use LOCAL, so I have no existing sites.
OS is Windows 10 Home, v 10.0.19045
Local is <local-8.2.1-windows>

Failure occurs when trying to create new site using existing zip file ( u3a < siteworksdemo.zip>)

What about opening up your zip file and moving the site in manually? The steps would look like this:
