I wish to start by disclosing I am not an IT specialist and have very basic knowledge of Wordpress.
After installing and working with Local it became my preferred method to design a Wordpress site. I am now ready to upload / install my first Wordpress site and use GoDaddy as my hosting service.
Question: What is the easiest or simplest way to upload my Wordpress site from Local to GoDaddy? I have not yet installed Wordpress using their own installation system or tool, I believe it’s called Installatron.
I took a look around GoDaddy’s help docs and this one seems like it might be the best option:
They do have a managed migration option, it looks like, but the instructions are as if it’s coming from another host.
You might trying contacting GoDaddy support directly and ask if they have a recommendation, or maybe they are willing to help you get things moved over if you can provide them a zip export of your site.
Again I wish to thank you for your really helpful and detailed answer to my post.
The solutions here are probably easier than they appear but they seem just slightly more complex than I hoped. I thought about possible alternatives and would like to get your advice on them, if I may:
My Wordpress site has a simple structure with only a few pages (2 or 3) and the pages only contain text, several images and a few videos. What if I exported these pages and then imported them into the Wordpress site set-up at GoDaddy? Would this be an acceptable way to do it? Is there a plugin in you can recommend that would export and import the entire page and all the files associated with it (photos and videos)?
Is there a different hosting service that works with Local and allows users to connect and upload their sites directly in an easy and straightforward way? I need a hosting service that offers directory privacy features. In other words, I can assign username and password to each user so only those with are authorized will have access to the site.
WordPress actually has a native built in exporter/importer function you can use. This article has a breakdown on it, but you could also just export your specific content if you wish. (Also, this site would be a great one to bookmark if you’re still learning WordPress and development, as they have a multitude of helpful articles)
Local has a built-in feature called Local Connect that provides a simple sync service, but it’s only compatible with Flywheel and WP Engine. That said, if you plan to be moving your site back and forth a lot and prefer a different host like GoDaddy then it might be worth getting a premium migration plugin. Most of these should be compatible with Local and allow you to essentially do the same and sync your site between environments. WP Migrate DB PRO is one such plugin that is part of our family and highly respected. That said, there are many great choices out there. You might have to check around and see what UI you prefer and what fits your budget.
